WEEK 6 ASSIGNEMENT


The writer of this book is John Boyne; it talks about the problem of the Second World War, when the Nazis took control of the Jewish people: Killing them, thinking that they were an inferior race. The book narrates from the innocence of Bruno, the son of a Nazi officer who moved with his family to a place outside Berlin, which, in fact, it is Auschwitz extermination camp.  Bruno makes a strong relationship with a Polish Jewish boy called Shmuel, who lives on the other side of a gate and, as other people in that place, wears a "striped pajama". Actually, they are prisoners.
Throughout the story, they make a great friendship, and Bruno decides to visit him and passes the gate because he wanted to know the place where his best friend lived. So, Shmuel got a striped pajama for Bruno in order to look like everyone. Shmuel asks Bruno for help to find his father. When they were trying to find Shmuel´s father, some Nazi officers were gathering the prisoners to send them to the gas chamber. The two kids didn´t know that. On the contrary, they thought they were going to a warm and safe place.  Suddenly the lights are turned off and the frightened boys, who are holding their hands, die. When Bruno´s parents realize that their son has gone to the extermination camp, It is too late, Bruno die inside the gas chamber.
